Palm Jumeirah, the world’s largest man-made island, launched in 2001 and quickly became a beloved residential and tourism destination. After nearly a decade, the palm-shaped island’s “trunk” district was still underutilized. In response, our team created a plan to activate the island’s entire trunk, transforming it into a destination spot where residents and visitors can indulge in dining and leisure activities throughout the day.
A broad pedestrian boulevard stretches along the site’s full length, its rich, matte marble keeping visitors cool during their morning run or afternoon stroll. In expansive parks at both ends of the boulevard, interactive fountains and playgrounds encourage families to stay and play. Restaurant kiosks dotting the white-sand beaches host residents and guests throughout the day and into the evening. These compact buildings feature retractable walls and windows for climate control, and their sophisticated mechanical systems are tucked neatly away beneath wood-composite roofs, leaving ocean views unobstructed.
Our team’s thoughtfully updated development plan breathes new life into a world-class destination, ensuring resident and visitor engagement for years to come.
