DP World, headquartered in Dubai, is the world’s largest owner of ports. In light of ever increasing global demand, our design team worked with the company to expand its Jebel Ali Port with Terminal 3—one of the largest semi-automated facilities in the world—beginning with the demolition of existing structures and utilities within a high-security zone. Greatly expanding the port’s capacity, the new terminal includes high-bay structures with eighteen-meter clearance, a hazardous storage area, a workshop, and a weld bay.
An expansive new office building complex, dedicated toTerminal 3 operations, contains the terminal’s entire command and control center, as well as supporting services for maintenance and equipment. The design prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of the workers, with the addition of a canteen, mosque, and rest area. All structures are clad in materials whose peaceful palette was inspired by the nearby desert and sea. As a state-of-the-art control center, the DP World Terminal Office Building facilitates ultra-high-volume activity with efficiency and calm.
