Slated for the Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg, MD, our team reimagined the facade of this 42,000-square-foot office building by providing a more contextually-aware, contemporary warehouse aesthetic. The new design weaves red brick verticals with horizontal metallic bands that wrap the entire exterior. The woven pattern they form creates a rhythm of gridded square windows—in contrast to a typical office park’s ribbon windows—that re-proportions the facade and allows the building to reflect its urban setting. At the front entry and two prominent corners, the scheme includes a playful, contemporary touch wherein the red brick pattern gives way to metallic setbacks, which strategically ease the scale of the building while providing a more intriguing look. Large, open storefronts for ground floor retail and a bright lobby entrance provide a more welcoming connection to visitors. Rooted in the building’s original design, the newly refined structure adds clean-lined sophistication that enhances the overall project vision.
